Psychologists have extensively studied this fear, attributing it to what they call the illusion of transparency. Research shows that speakers often perceive their anxiety levels to be much higher than their audience does. Consistently, speakers judge themselves more harshly than observers ever would.

I understand this nervousness all too well. Like the over 800 public speakers I have mentored, I’ve felt those butterflies flutter in my stomach before stepping onto a stage—even after 30 years in the field. As Mark Twain famously said, there are two types of public speakers: the nervous ones and the liars. Early in my speaking journey, I learned from my mentors that it’s okay to have butterflies; the key is to get them to fly in formation.

My standard public speaking coaching package, priced at $2500, includes four 90-minute sessions over Zoom, tailored to meet each client's specific needs.
